peter grummich is a man who needs little introduction. peter has been producing grade-a techno and house for over a decade now on some of the most established electronic dance music labels in europe. peters unique production techniques draw upon a deeper sense of music. segeltuch – >the triolig deep track< is a dark and stripped down tech-house journey. chunky snares and simplistic high hats meld with ominous synth dripping with dub-styled delays. classically detroit sustained string sounds and rich analogue sweeps reflect peters loving detail oriented production at it s finest. what is most remarkable about this collection of sounds is that it gives segeltuch – >the triolig deep track< a remarkable versatility, both dancefloor energy and time.
elevation funk is no average b-side. elevation funk is a super sexy house groove that does the job right. deep and hypnotic analogue stabs slowly modulate to keep the bodies swinging on the dancefloor. odd synthetic effects and cut up noises just drip in overdriven dub-styled delays keeping the groove from getting style and providing delicious ear candy for the dancefloor. then about half way through this journey peter slowly brings back in a wet sounding hat pattern to bring this slow cooking bomb to the boiling point.

ironic? no, it’s dead serious: sally shapiro keeps on dreaming of barbie and ken. sometimes good things come to those who wait, as is the case with sally shapiro. one shouldn’t really imagine the bashful swede from göteborg, who never performs live, setting a new trend for turning down lucrative offers. and the thought that she is working on something hip, is most likely even a little eerie for her. after all, she s just into something, which she’s been doing since her childhood in the 1980s — singing songs in the style of her idol sandra (”maria magdalena“). if she hadn’t met her companion johan agebjörn, who despite his musical socialization with techno in the 1990s has been deep into italo disco for the past few years and is a collector of zyx records, sally’s passion for synthi songs and fairy-like female vocals would have remained private. however, johan was screwing together some italo-style songs when he asked sally (whose voice he’d only heard from a previous christmas party karaoke) if she would improvise on his soft keyboard tunes, their collaboration was a done deal.
subsequent to their first releases on the labels diskokaine and permanent vacation, sally shapiro suddenly found herself in the midst of the ultra-hip neo/italo-disco movement, which is especially big in scandinavia. why of all things on the northern peninsula, where one traditionally listens to black metal and indie rock played with legs spread apart, the peculiar, yet sunny disco music became such an export hit, stays one of the mysteries of the pop business. it’s a fact, though, that next to internationally celebrated norwegian neodisco-heroes lindström, prins thomas and todd terje, the lovely sally has become the scandinavian disco-act in the mean time.

westpark unit (aka herb lf & ingo saenger) are back with their annual release on farside records after some work for labels like dessous, tjumy, future classic or fear of flying. this time, they provide 4 brandnew trax for the vinyl edition. more forever might be familiar to a few people that followed the music of westpark unit over the years. the tune is a special rework of their first ever limited 12inch release forever back in 2002 on draft recordings. more forever took some of the original deep harmonies, keeps parts of the piano loop and the beautiful sampled hook and should be a soulful bomb on the 2009 floors. even deeper 45 grows and grows with a very intensely chord, takes you on a trip with its driving bassline and is the other dubby deep house tune here. the first demo version received some nice feedback / chartings / plays from djs like dplay, matt flores or shur i kan. while speaking of house (not house), jam hot and familiar sequence are musically caught somewhere in between the styles. jam hot might be more funk than house with sexy 104 bpm, is bouncing like hell and keeps the crowd shaking and moving. familiar sequence appeals to the disco fanatics out there, has a little of a balearic vibe and is also keeping things slow. both tunes are the perfect startup into the night. we think this is the right tempo for party anyway.

its been a while since the last rsb release, but then tracks like this dont come along every day! for their first vinyl appearance on a label other than their own, enigmatic german duo ancient methods do the honourable thing and break out the whip, a track that comes across like a 2-step party in the foundry of thor himself. lets lazily label it anvil techno, because as far as we are aware no has yet invented a genre that adequately desribes music such as this. and as we have come to expect, much the same can be said of the evil sickness that is eat like hawks by bjorn svin (with a little help from karsten pflum, jona olesen & copyflex!). it starts like it means to go on, with a gnarled loop and indecipherable distorted vocals, and is gradually tweaked and augmented to the point of destruction. all manner of ill bass, overdriven filters, zaps, clanky drums & feedback join the party before the whole affair is brought to an abrupt end by the strange foreign lady that we have come to know and love over the course of the track. truly music for small, sweaty, strobe-driven cellars.

downwards sidestep expectations again with this glorious limited 10inch vinyl release from tropic of cancer. two beautifully dark compositions that remind slightly of angelo badalamenti in >twin peaks< mode, or maybe reservoir dogs, if it had been filmed with a huge cavern as the soundstage. processed guitar and drones wash swampily over a simple drumbox beat, as eerie snatches of melody float in and out. as badalamenti himself said of his own work, >my (musical) world is a little bit dark... a little bit off-center. i think of it as tragically beautiful. that is how i would describe what i love best: tragically beautiful.< seems to sum this release up quite nicely too...

the latest offering from truesoul come courtesy of joel mull & cari lekebusch. the a side >passing thru< is a sexy little tech groover, already getting the boys and girl particularly moist on the dancefloors, apealing to both the house and techno posses. the flipside >landing strip< is more fo a chugging groover with gorgeous synth stabs and rising pads. the swedish fraternity are leading the way with awesome electronic music!

adam beyer returns to mad eye with a storming two tracker. keeping it deep and funky and a little bit druggy, beyer takes us on a swirling journey with eerie synths and dubby bass. this is definitely not a record just for a techno frat - you will definitely see cross over to the tech and deep house boys who yearn for something a little bit tougher in their sets. once again beyer can do no wrong as he cements himself as one of the biggest names in techno today. sickeningly good!

terry grant is back on baroque with this deep techy little number. chinese laundry comes in two versions, from terry, the arp mix is a sharp tech house driven groove with a catchy as hell hook line... and the deep mix which takes things down and deep for wamring things up. on the remix sonny wharton seriously pushes the energy levels with a peak time glistneing remix!

after a little silence from rotterdams sound architecture label they are on a roll again! after releasing music by joris voorn, shawn rudiman, rejected (when they were still rather unknown) they bring up some new talented producers! the sound architecture guys are hosting some of the best techno events in the netherlands.. and meet a lot of young producers.. and here is another example that with good a&r even young bedroom producers can release some hot club tracks! file this under the hottest new school house tracks on the market!

altair nouveau is among the spaciest of dfaÆs recent signings, a producer clearly as in love with the soundtracks of john carpenter as he is with italo covers of classic rock tunes. >space fortress< saves its best for the final two minutes with a synthesized trumpet lead thatÆll have you either pumping your fist or reaching for the off switch. >showdown<, meanwhile, more adequately gets at mitchellÆs soundtrack love, with its pleasantly percolating backing track giving a chance to various sounds to prove their worth. >sorcerer< embraces the hints of flourish that mitchell dropped in spots elsewhere, and goes full-on with the funk. itÆs tough, well-produced and a little bit funny to listen to in the privacy of your own homeùjust like the 80s soundtrack music that it so readily recalls.
